The development of the covered bridge owes much to Massachusetts. The first U.S. covered bridge, for example, was designed by Massachusetts native Timothy Palmer and during the 19th century, the industry was dominated by Massachusetts bridge builder William Howe, his sons, their in-laws and associates. Despite this heritage, the Web has lacked a comprehensive site for all of Massachusetts' existing covered bridges. This site is dedicated to these bridges and the people who made them.
